I was wondering how much I should tip the hair stylist for a Japanese Hair Straightening that costs $400 bucks? I've read that the general rule is about 15-20%, but that comes up to a ridiculous amount. So I was wondering what would be reasonable?

The whole process should take about 4 hours for shoulder length hair.

One of my good friends has this treatment and you'll be amazed! It works GREAT...You'd think she had straight hair and she has tight red curly hair normally --- she gets it wet and just has a light wave which is easily straigthened.

Where I live, it depends on where you get it done. In a mainstream salon, 15-20%. I have gotten it done in Chinatown in a tiny place who pays their employees a salary and the owner does alot of the work. There you tip 10% and that is generous since the price is already inclusive of the salary paid to the technician.

Um.....one, thats A LOT of work for the hairdresser, and if all of that money is not going to her, you really should tip her good. Because, she's doing all of this for you, and taking the time to do it, you should pay her 10-30 dollers. I know it's a lot, but come on, that's a lot of time and a lot of money and she's doing it thinking she's going to get like nothing.

Make sure you bring an ipod or book during the long hours though. memeber that your pay is the hair being done. So, around 10-30 bucks. Hope I could help~isa
