Does using a hair straightening iron (I'm a guy) contribute to male pattern baldness?

If not, how often can I straighten my hair without causing too much damage in the future? I already have quite straight but thick hair and I just like the texture of my hair after straightening it, so I don't really hold the tongs on it for too long.

Thanks in advance.

No it doesn't contribute to baldness. Use it all you want to. Twice a week before you go to bed put olive oil on the ends of your hair and wash it out the next morning. I know it sounds weird, but it keeps your hair healthy.

God I hope NOT! I have been using one for years and I don't want to get Male pattern baldness. EEck!

You can damage your hair w/ irons, but it wouldn't cause baldness. Balding is genetically driven. You should use a good conditioner to help limit the drying damage that irons can cause.

Male pattern baldness is a hereditary condition that is passed down through the family. However using a straightening iron too often can damage your hair. I'm no hairdresser but I'd recommend only using it once or twice a week.

Straightening your hair will not make you bald but it may cause your hair to become brittle and break off. To prevent damage to your hair you should use a good, professional quality hair iron with ceramic plates and always use protective oil before straightening (It comes in gel form and you can buy from a good salon supply store). Also remember not to use too high a heat setting.
