I plan to go to the shop to straighten my hair and they mentioned it will be chemical straightening. I've never straighten my hair before so I do not know how many types of hair straightening procedure out there. Is Chemical straightening alright or will permanently damage my hair?

I have straighthen my hair since KL's times and altogether 4 times. You mean rebonding right? Cos they are few types ..as one is the traditional straighthening cream applied on to your hair and comb it. The other is using pieces of hard board to hold onto your hair and wait. These two methods are not so effective for those really frizzy or wavvy hair.
The latest one we called rebonding is applying softener to your hair and after soften, stylish would crimp your hair using iron board to straighthen it after which a hardener would apply onto your hair to fixed it. Technically, those hair is dead after the whole event is done that why your hair remain straight forever if you dont perm it....but your new grown hair would be your original natural hair thus you need to always go back to get the new grown hair done otherwise..you could imagine the shape of your hair!
All products used on your hair whether perm or straight would be chemical in one way or another (have not come across unchemical way)..but use good product like from japan would
minimise the damage.
And you can also choose to 'perm" real straight or natural straight..which mean if you have very thick volume of hair..go for real straight otherwise natural straight would not make you look like "lok tong kai". Good hair stylist should know how to..
Last..try to go for treatment once a while ..too.
Hope this help and I just done my 2 days ago!!!
guessed you know is not Khen now?

I would not have it chemically straightened. Have them to use a round brush and blow dryer. It depends on the texture of your hair. Permanently relaxing hair strips the follicle. It weakens and dry the hair. My sisters and myself have the same hair. Thick and wavy. She relaxed her hair about 6 years ago. She had to get it cut to the new growth and have it to grow back out. Weird thing is, now her hair is more curly than wavy. If you do not have super coarse kinky hair. Stick to the round brush and blow dryer.

Any time you use a chemical on your hair it adds distress and some damage. The more often you use the chemical the more damaged your hair becomes. Of course your hair is not going to be permanently damaged, since it will grow out.

Well, getting your hair chemically straightened is better for your hair than straightening it everyday. You'll still damage it but not as much as straightening it everyday. Chemical straightening is very safe. It takes a long time and can be expensive but i guess it's worth it(:

there are two types of straightnings.
one is done by the chemicals and other by the natural products.
but there is not any problem in chemical straigtning, done by good quality of cream like LOREAL'S.
i am also useing that , i don't have any problem with it.

You should just stick to what you know. I chemically straighten my hair and at one point or for years I was treating my hair wrong so it always was damaged. Now I deep condition my hair every week and use protein conditioner after every chemical straightening process. You can also just get your hair straightened with flat irons or blow dry it straight but I tell you that can get extremely damaging as well. No matter what you choose you must still deep condition your hair and condition it daily, no exceptions.
