Just buy a good flat iron, and use
Ion/John Frieda Heat protectant spray before flat ironing...

I heard that they can be very very damaging to your hair. There are several really good straightners that will make your hair shiny and straight. I personally use a Hot Tools Ceramic straightner and I love it. PS- It also helps if you straighten your hair in very small sections. Hope this helps!
