Hair straightening balm, cream, or gel??

I've been using Chi Straight Guard as a heat protectant when I straighten my hair. It makes me hair silky smooth and soft, but it really does a terrible job or protecting my hair from my flat iron heat. I was wondering if a gel would be more protective. What do you guys think? What's the best heat protectant for hair straightening? (type of product and if you could give a specific product that be great too :))

Hair straightening balm, cream, or gel??

I personally use Frizz Ease on wet hair, then after blowdrying I spay with Chi Shine Infusion. Then i flat iron. It has thermal protection and my hair comes out looking great every time.

Hair straightening balm is the lightest and doesn't look as greasy, but the others probably works best yet, whatever you use, your hair will still damage.

I am using the Chi Straight Guard too and its really not working. My hair is completely fried from the straightening iron. I have to straighten it though because it is a mess. I am curious to see what others think. I have tried all sorts of things and nothing is working.
