Well, i have very curly hair. And, over the years, about 2, ive been straightening my hair the complete WRONG way, i would get out of the shower, wait for my hair to get damp, and then straighten it while its still wet, which has damaged my hair greatly, Now, what i do is blow dry my hair, put heat protector on each strand before i straighten and brush out each strand before i striaghten. I have seen results, but very little, i just recently got my hair cut and the way she treated my hair was fantastic iver tried so many things.
Help please?
Ill show you what my hair looks like when istaighten it and when the hair salon does it.

Okay, yeah big difference.
Maybe, your flat iron just flat out sucks.
I'd recomend a Chi, they're amazing.
It's good that you protect your hair, that's the most important part.
What you should do is after you get out of the shower, put some frizz stuff on, I have poofy hair like you so I use SunSilk AntiPoof cream, then let your hair air dry COMPETLY, then put the heat protection on, then pull your hair back into a pony tail.
Lower your hair, one level at a time.
Start with the bottom most hair, straighten that, then add more, and so on and so on untill it's all straight.
Then, add some shine cream or gel or spray, I use John Frieda Shine Shock [briliant brunette] or Garnier Sleek and Shine Spray.
It works wonders.

With the way your layers are cut, it's going to appear more damaged than it really is. You should get your layers cut with scissors not razor. You need to let your layers grow out a little, keep it trimmed regularly and deep condition. It's not your hair....it's your layers.

First off, your hair will not fall out. You may get some breakage but you need to make sure that before you blowdry or straighten, you put some sort of product like- anti frizz or a smoothing serum to protect it from heat damage and that will make your hair straight and smooth. You probably want to go to some salonsnd get good product though!
