Is Japanese Hair Straightening Damaging?

I have thick, middle eastern hair that has been a bit damaged by flat ironing (some split ends, some hair falling out).

I'm skeptical about doing the Japanese straightening on my hair because it has chemicals and heat and it might damage my hair even more?

What is your opinion on this situation? I really want to get my hair straightened using the Japanese system. I just hope my hair won't fall out or break a lot.

Thanks in advance!

YES! Any CHEMICAL service that alters your hair either the color or texture is damaging.

But the damage can be controlled with an experienced stylist who knows what they are doing. If your hair is in good condition they will do it. If the stylist is honest and your hair is in bad condition they will turn you down and tell you to get your hair in better condition which can be through conditioning treatments.

Another thing is that it is up to you to keep your hair in good condition. You might have to spend some big money on products to help keep your hair moisturized and in good condition. You're going to have to give your hair more TLC than ever before. Usually if done correctly you won't really have to use any heating appliances. But even if you do be very careful about how youdo it.

If a stylist tells you there is no damage at all they are lying to you. Like I said every chemical does some type of damage but if the technician is trained well and you take good care of your hair at home you should be ok. Good luck to you. Ask alot of questions during consultations.

In the long-run it will damage your hair. I would just stick with the conventional methods.

Don't do it- my sister tried it and it really damaged her hair, and especially because it didn't work for her. she got split ends and her hair became bristly and thick, and she found it really hard to tame her hair. it only became nice again till her natural hair grew back.

What you really need is a deep conditioner if you already having problems. A professional can actually do that. Also, I had had problems with hair falling out due to flat ironing but my hair was longer also. I had my hair cut in layers and a bit shorter and I do not have that problem anymore. It is always natural to lose some hair but not a whole lot of hair. I would definitely not recommend Japanese hair straightning until your hair is healthy again.

ALL perms are!!! They use harsh chemicals in order to make your hair all straight same goes with other type of perms! I have a perm right now, I got it done last Saturday.. But the results will really brighten your world! I say give it a try!!!

I've been using that method since i was 12 and my hair is a healthy and full as ever. First, find out which straightening product they use. The best Japanese Straightening System is Liscio, and the second is Yuko. Both are made in Japan. Any others are to be cautiously researched. Liscio has produced the best results on clients, and if you've read about it anywhere, there is nothing negative to be reported. This is the system the salon I went to used, and my results were healthy and beautiful. Second, make sure the technician performing the service has plenty of experience in the process. Any good salon will provide you with before and after pictures of their work.

Better than using Hair dryer to try to straighten the hair every day. I have done many times, but it is much easier in the morning, and less damage in my case.
