I just recently and accidentally discovered that rubbing a bit of Olive Oil into my straightened hair makes it look straighter and alot less frizzy. I do an awful job of straightening my hair cause I'm just learning, and I'm testing out different products, so this new cure was salvation!
What I'm wondering is if Olive Oil will reverse the straightening effects of a flat iron by adding moisture back into my hair. It's a bit hard to tell with my straightening job, but I'm going to get it professionally straightened (with a flat iron), and I need to know if adding Olive Oil will ruin the straightening job.
Also, since Olive Oil seems to work well with hair, I'd like to know if I could rub a bit of Olive Oil into my hair and then straighten it with the Olive Oil without damaging my hair.
Thanks to anyone who can answer
Olive Oil and Hair Straightening?
Olive oil will help your hair but if you put too much it is going to look greasy, baby oil will do the same but if you get it professionally straightened then they should do a good enough job that you shouldnt have to add anything extra to it. Also do not put it in your hair before you straighten it because it is going to cause your hair to steam and possibly smell burnt which will damage your hair as well. You should try a product called Biosilk hair serum.

If you straighten your hair with olive oil in it it will most likely fry your hair. They sell hair products (marketed to african americans) that have oil in them, I would use that instead.
Olive Oil and Hair Straightening?
Ok, first of all; do you have a colour put on your hair? If so, stop using the olive oil right now! The next time you go to get your hair coloured, the colour will just slide right off because the oil will leave a heavy residue in your hair that will be impossible to remove. The olive oil will leave your hair greasy and stinky eventually. If you are having your hair professionally straightened (with chemicals, there is no such thing as having your hair professionally straighteners with irons and if any salon does this they are ripping you off) then the olive oil will hinder any effects the straightening lotion has on your hair. Hope I helped. Lulu x

olive oil is a natural moisturizer, so if you apply it after you straighten its going to curl. you should still use it as a a deep conditioner.
to seal out humidity and smooth fly aways try a serum, like john freda.
