THERMAL reconditiong/ JAPANESE hair straightening: A Daily Struggle with Hair?

I am an Ethiopian-American with normal hair, not fine, but not coarse. (I also heard that the chemical process may not work on black or coarse hair.) I try to straighten my hair at home, with CHI irons, but my hair is too thick to be tamed, so I leave home with a smooth bun. I was considering Japanese hair straightening because perms/relaxers were just too strong for my hair, and left my hair too dry. Should I take the plunge? Please if you can, give me personal stories*

*if you are black please be even more informative about your experience with Japanese hair straightening

THERMAL reconditiong/ JAPANESE hair straightening: A Daily Struggle with Hair?

Im a stylist, mixed ethnic background, and perform and have had this proceedure performed on me. my experience with my huge wavy slightly coarse hair was AMAZING. be sure to go to a reputable stylist, if there is any relaxer in your hair, cut it out, or the proceedure will do it for you. relaxers alter the bond in the hair in a different way then the japanese thermal straightening, so when the thermal straightener is applied over it, it creates the same reaction that Nair has on hair. it won't work on really nappy hair. As a guidline, if you can slide a pencil inside your curls it can straighten them. your hair needs elasticity, do curls spring back when you pull it out and let go? its hard to have a consultation online without seeing or feeling your hair. my hair wasn't curly *except a few in the back* but was wavy and huge. if i let my hair air dry, it would stick out 5 inches from my head when it was long, just the sheer thickness and wave fluffed it up that big. my hair was just passed my collar bone when straight, and i had it done in december it was still lasting me until may, then i chopped my hair off. you need to let it grow 4-5 inches before a retouch. when i first washed it after the process I couldn't believe how small my head felt, lol. I was a model when we leared how to do it, so i was new to it at the time. my hair was left silky, smooth and perfectly straight. i could get away with just a blowdry with my fingers if i was in a rush, NEVER on my natural texture. hair will be difficult to curl if you have this done. if the thermal straightening isn't going to work for you, check out opti smooth cold smoothing. its a curl softener, it will loosen up those curls, take down the volume and abolish frizz. It will make it easier to straighten, but you have the versatility to still wear it curly. you can start with the cold smoothing to see if you like it, and then switch to thermal straightening if you realy want super straight locks. its not nearly as damaging or drying as a relaxer *ive used all forms of chemical straightening on friends and clients* and the cold smoothing is the best of you want veratility without damage like a traditional relaxer. heat straightening is amazing for super straight locks. I would only use a relaxer on really coarse hair or nappy hair that is unsuitable for either of these processes. you need to follow the stylists instructions for after care if you want optimal results.
